The MacSparky Paperless Field Guide

I just read this book yesterday: The MacSparky Paperless Field Guide. You can find it on iTunes. It’s one of those fancy new “books” with movies and stuff. That would make it cool enough, but it also has a metric ton of handy tips for, well, going paperless, as the discerning reader has probably figured out.

Crisis: Evernote not working

This is all I see when I try to launch Evernote. I keep repeatedly trying it because maybe I didn’t click the mouse right before or something. I upgraded through the App Store, and since then it just won’t work. I deleted every crumb from my Mac and reinstalled, and then I deleted every crumb

I’ll never write this column (or, tricks with DisplayPad)

I’m totally still procrastinating, but it’s to prepare me for work. This is actually pretty cool. I like to write in Multimarkdown, so I’ve got Byword running on my Mac, and I’m using DisplayPad to mirror my Mac’s screen on my iPad so I can have Marked running right next to me. This prevents the

TaskPaper: More To-Do Nirvana

I spend a lot of time and money trying to find the perfect to-do system. Yes, a system. It’s not enough to just keep a list. That would probably work better and leave me with more time to actually get stuff done instead of messing with my system, but I want something geeky and electronic.

Getting rid of annoying things on Web pages

Published on April 10, 2012 in Productivity

I open my laptop every few days whether it needs it or not. It’s actually dusty. I use it for things like scanning, printing, and various photo and music library tasks plus one blog that won’t flip a switch that allows me to publish from my iPad. Otherwise I use my iPad (3) and Kindle

Why I love Evernote, for realz

I’ve had “blog about Evernote” on my to-do list for a few days to the point that I’ve spent more time looking at it than doing it, so here we go. I’ve been an Evernote user since it was in beta, I think, so I’ve evolved with it. It was cool to begin with, but

I’ve decided iOS 5 Reminders are actually useful

I’ve had iOS 5 for months now, and I initially rejected Reminders after a day or so, largely because the cool location-based feature drained my battery instantly, but also because it was too rudimentary. I don’t mind simple to-do lists (I like Google’s task list, and it’s pretty bare bones), but I just didn’t see

I think I’ll move to Picasa from Flickr

Published on July 11, 2011 in Productivity

I got on Google+ pretty much immediately, when people were still posting echoing “hello…hello…hello” posts. I don’t like Facebook. I don’t like the way it takes all your data and keeps it FOREVER, unapologetically. Google may be only slightly less evil regarding how much they know about me, but they’re more transparent about it, and

Priorities for iOS review

I love me some to-do apps. I spend more time tending to my to-do items than I do actually completing the items. Hey. It’s important to know and embrace your limitations. Priorities is a nice little app (US$2.99) that’s already been well reviewed here and elsewhere. Most reviews leave out or report as cons the
