I have been pondering moving to Picasa from Flickr, and there are compelling reasons to do it. I just wrote about them. Particularly if you're using Goop (Google+), it's a good reason to use Picasa. But I keep using Flickr anyway, despite my intentions otherwise. It's the path of least resistance. It's hard to DEAL with Picasa. There are Goop albums and there are Google Photo albums, and the links are confusing, and there are no easy share buttons or bookmarklets. There are no groups on Picasa. There IS a decent photographer community springing up on Goop, but I still find it easier to flick through pages of photos on Flickr groups. I also remain a die-hard Tumblr fan, and it is a BIG PAIN IN THE ASS to post your Picasa photos on Tumblr. I don't know. Theoretically I like Google+ and Picasa, but I seem to in practice go right on using Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr. And, God forbid, Facebook. Maybe I need to do like my friend Matt, the Canadian superpower nurse, and swear off Facebook. But I keep peeking back to see what's going on, and then I end up posting there, and then I'm still posting in both places.
But this isn't what I started out to say. My original point was that Flickr is probably still worth using. It's got a hell of a momentum. Plus it just seems nice to pat Yahoo! on the head and use ONE of their products, doesn't it?
